Stress Holiday Season

Staying Sane During the Silly Season…

No disrespect for the holiday season whatsoever. In fact, I’m writing this blog as a means to help you through the holiday season so you can enjoy the true miracles the season SHOULD bring to you and those you love.

The holidays should be a time of enjoying our blessings and relaxing with friends and family. No matter what your religion or tradition, the season is about celebrating miracles. As you move through the holiday season, will you be celebrating miracles? Will you be counting your blessings and emanating positive energy and love to those around you?

Too often, we get caught up in the consumerism of the holidays. It’s nearly impossible to turn on the television or drive down the road without being constantly reminded that we should have lavishly decorated holiday homes, loads of presents under the tree and plenty of food and beverages to share with friends and family at elaborate dinners and holiday parties. Spend, spend, spend…. Work, work, work!

Gone are the days, it seems, of simple gifts under the tree for the kids. Santa’s elves must have quite the technology department! Kids as young as 2nd graders are asking for iPhones and PS4’s. Dolls and train sets are likely passé . Yes, times have changed. And with it, the pressure to please our children at Christmas has grown.

This stress has a way of manifesting in your body as fatigue, weight gain, aches and pains. Give yourself time to enjoy the holiday season. Support your body with healthy food, plenty of sleep and relaxing by the tree with your family. Shut down the screens and read some Christmas stories.

We’d have a tough time going against the consumerism flow of Christmas, and let’s face it, there’s definitely a reward Christmas morning for all the Santas who have smiling, tech-happy kids in their presence. Just remember to relax and count your blessings.

Happy Holidays!
